Whether you are planning a mama’s weekend away, hosting family from out-of-town or you just want to get away for a night with your sweetie to experience something new and exciting… Squamish is a really awesome option for all of the above!

Squamish is not only super fun as a quick getaway (4o minutes from the North Shore!), but it is quickly becoming a stomping grounds for many young families.  Nestled exactly between Vancouver and Whistler, Squamish has small city charm with big city excitement!

Located on the ocean at the tip of the Howe Sound fjord, Squamish offers the world’s most epic outdoor adventures from Sea to Sky, all within 10 minutes.  In Squamish you can play on the ocean and explore the mountains all in the same day.

I recently had the opportunity to spend a weekend away in Squamish as a guest of Tourism Squamish in partnership with Jelly Marketing.  The thing I LOVE about these kinds of trips that are meant to expose media guests to as much as possible (in a fairly condensed amount of time), is you REALLY get an idea of what is on offer.  I REALLY got a great feel for what Squamish is all about and I’m a fan!

I had no idea how much fun Squamish is, though I should have maybe guessed since so many people I know have been moving there in the last few years.  It’s a hot commodity because of the crazy housing costs in Vancouver and our generation’s love of diversity and outdoor play!

What I am going to share with you now, is a 2 day all-inclusive itinerary.  You can literally follow the plan that we followed as media for a really exciting weekend getaway.  One that can be carried out RAIN or shine (important for us Raincouverites) 😉 . So, grab those girlfriends, out-of-town guests or the love-of-your-life and go make some memories without ferry lineups or expensive airfares!

A Perfect Squamish Weekend

Day 1

We started our whirlwind vacay at the Airhouse.  What a great way to kickoff the first day.  I wasn’t sure what to expect, but what we ended up doing is bouncing, laughing and challenging ourselves in such a fun way.

The Airhouse is a progressive, freestyle training centre offering a wide range of trampoline and conditioning programs for everyone.  Their goal is to provide the best jumping experience in a safe and fun learning environment.  Whether you are a kid just starting to learn trampoline basics or a competitive athlete looking for professional training and coaching.

An hour of bouncing must burn at least a thousand calories because we were all very excited about our next stop which was brunch at the popular Sunwolf Resort.

That meal you see above was easily the prettiest Eggs Benny I’ve ever eaten.  We hung out in a beautiful lodge called the Fisherman’s Cottage and ate a delicious meal from Fergie’s Cafe which is on site at Sunwolf.   When I posted about it on Instagram, I had so many people comment about how much they also love it there.  Always a good sign!

Sunwolf Resort is a one of a kind place and possible the best hidden secret in the region. This resort is located on the banks of the Cheakamus River in Brackendale.  Sunwolf offers whitewater rafting excursions and eagle viewing floats in the winter season.

It was raining and chilly, but hot coffee is a cure-all, right?

Great meals are an important part of being on vacation, so we were whisked from brunch to a brewery tour at Howe Sound Inn & Brewing Co. and more food!

The tour was a very informative and the staff at Howe Sound Brewing suggested their favourite beers for us to sample- there were flights being enjoyed all-round.

Rated one of the best pubs for food and beer in the Lower Mainland, Howe Sound Brewpub has become known as the meeting place in Squamish for locals and tourists alike.

For those of you out there looking to get into the housing market, Squamish has become a huge draw for young couples and families.  I get it.  I really do.  Our next stop was a show home for the Ravenswood development currently being built and – my goodness- was it ever tempting!

Ravenswood is the first and only large, single builder, master planned community to come to Squamish. It is the first opportunity for those looking to purchase a quality, modern and affordable family home in the Sea to Sky. This project fills a large gap in the local housing market, and should resonate with the young families looking to raise their children in their own paradise.

There’s something about a move-in-ready, brand-spanking-new home that has always appealed to me and Ravenswood was all that as well as just so beautiful!

The homes will start at $800,000 and feature modern design and conveniences. It’s perfect for anyone looking for a beautiful home not too far from Vancouver and lives an active lifestyle with the added benefit of mountains, trails and much more in their backyard.

After an action-packed day of exploring Squamish, we made our way to the Executive Suites Hotel & Resort where we were all staying for the night.  We had about an hour to relax before getting ready to head out for MORE food and a night out together!

I love hotel rooms that have full kitchens, because my reality now is that I am usually away with kids and having the option of cooking meals in before heading out is invaluable to families!  It had a full living area too which also makes all the difference in the world!

After a quick freshen-up, we cabbed into downtown Squamish for drinks and dinner at The Salted Vine Kitchen + Bar.

The Salted Vine Kitchen + Bar is a contemporary and inspired taste of the Pacific Northwest and a new upscale dining experience in the heart of historic Squamish.  The menu focusses on seasonal small share plates that use fresh and sustainable ingredients.

I’m not sure I’ve ever eaten as much food as we did that night.  I think we ordered everything off the menu x2 (at least!!!) and it was all so incredibly delicious.  I told a friend the other day, that I’d drive up to Squamish and back for that dinner again!

We ended our very full day with very full bellies.

Day 2

We were ready for day 2 after we enjoyed some goodies in our rooms, that we were treated to from Executive Suites.  The second morning was to start with Sea To Sky Air plane rides over Squamish.  I’m not going to lie… I was a little nervous about this part of the itinerary as I am just a teeny tiny (hugely) bit afraid of heights.  The idea of being in a small 4-seater plane was… unnerving.

Little did I know this would end up being my favourite experience in a very long time and absolutely an experience of a lifetime!

It’s impossible to express in photos or words how amazing this flight was.  I was sad when it ended and I plan on going again FOR SURE!

Fly above and beyond the massive granite cliffs of the Stawamus Chief, the cascading waters of Shannon Falls, and the spectacular peaks of the Tantalus range to see what really makes Squamish one of the world’s most beautiful places.

I even got to be ‘co-pilot’! Just kidding, I was just riding shotgun!

We didn’t stay grounded for very long, as we went from Sea To Sky Air straight to the Sea To Sky Gondola.

Up, up and awayyyyyy.

Does this make anyone else feel a little nervous? We crossed it and I assure you it was alllll good!

And we felt like we were on top of the world!

While all the great eats and the incredible sights are so appreciated while away, there’s not much that beats great company.  I arrived in Squamish expecting to spend 2 days with complete strangers and I left feeling like I’d just spent time with great friends!

Thank you so much Tourism Squamish for showing us such a good time and to all the businesses that helped make this trip so super special!

I really want to take my 2 kids on the Sea To Sky Gondola. I’ve driven past it as my brother lives in Whistler but we’ve never stopped. One day we will.
