Travel: Nectar Yoga B&B on Bowen Island
Travel September 8, 2016 Jessica Blumel 2

One of the most incredible things about living in Vancouver is the accessibility we have to vacation spots. By car, we can get to the mountains, the lakes and quaint beach towns. By boat, we are minutes away from all the beautiful islands around us. Exploring new places nearby is one of the many perks of living in Vancouver and Nectar Yoga B&B on Bowen Island is one of these special destinations.
I had the opportunity of experiencing Nectar Yoga B&B with a good friend of mine, and fellow writer, Bianca. We both decided we really needed a night away from kids after a long summer trying to be work at home moms. Let me tell you, not nearly enough work gets done! Even when the kids are in camps and other programs, workdays are usually cut pretty short and the balancing act is more extreme than normal. Needless to say, a chance to get away for a ‘mama timeout’, was just what we both craved.
I stumbled across Nectar Yoga B&B on Instagram a few months ago and instantly fell in love with their geodesic yoga dome.

I literally added Nectar to my bucket list of places to stay one fine day and the fact that it was ticked off my list just recently, makes me feel like life is treating me too well! I had extremely high expectations of Nectar Yoga B&B and the experience there truly exceeded what I had even conjured up in my head!
Bowen Island
Nectar Yoga B&B is located on Bowen Island, an 18 minute ferry ride from West Vancouver, BC. Upon arrival to this serene little island, I instantly felt like I was somewhere far far away from Vancouver!
The views from anywhere and everywhere on the island are staggering and it was a great reminder of the beauty we have here on the west coast!
Bianca and I wandered and explored (and shopped- oops!) and had a lovely day before checking into Nectar!
A work session that ended up being a really nice catch-up instead 😉
Exploring Bowen Island
It was so special to have absolutely no agenda! We knew we had our first yoga session at 5:30pm, but up until that time, the day was ours and we made the most of it!
Nectar B&B
I’ve been trying to figure out how to describe Nectar B&B without sounding annoyingly cheesy, but I just can’t do it. Nectar B&B is a little slice of paradise, you guys!!! (Yes, I WILL have some w(h)ine with my cheese, please and thank you 😛 ). Seriously though… walking up to our loft cottage with the woods as a backdrop and the dome to the left, it felt like it wasn’t even real!

The breakfast that was served was vegan and delicious! We sat out on our beautiful private patio, with our new friend from Sweden, and let our bodies rest after yoga session #2 of the stay.
Yoga
Yoga is something I love and appreciate. It is not something I am great at, but I enjoy it tremendously. My hips don’t open up even half as much as I feel they should, but knowing I have some dedicated time to working on that openness is what I enjoy most. It’s like I am treating myself to the gift of time. Time for ME.
The yoga practice at Nectar Yoga was different from any other class I have been a part of. The first day, we had the owner, Andrea, as our instructor and she started the class with an explanation of what yoga really is. I had never really thought of it past stretching, movement, exercise and how much I enjoy child’s pose! Yoga is so much more than that, and I felt that Nectar allowed me to dive into the depths of calm, stillness, meditation and being aware of myself in my current space.
“Where you are right now, is exactly where you are supposed to be.”

If you are looking for a mini getaway from city life, or you are coming from elsewhere in the world and are looking for a quintessential west coast experience, Nectar Yoga B&B should really go at the top of your list!
Namaste.
Nama-stay right here!
