The best party is the one that’s hosted FOR you!

Last year for Portia’s 4th birthday party, we went ALL OUT. It was a Frozen theme (of course) and it was great! We decorated the house, we brought in Queen Elsa, there were about 40 guests (in our not huge home), we had a professional photographer… the works!!
My goodness it was a fun party (check it out here!) but MY GOODNESS was the preparation and the cleanup a lot! I was exhausted before the party started. Throw in 20 kids (and just as many adults) and by the time the party was over, I had already vowed to have Portia’s 5th birthday ANYWHERE but our home.
I wasn’t sure where I wanted to have Portia’s party, but I knew that I wanted a place where the kids could be active (being cooped up inside someone’s home doesn’t always cut it for 5 year olds) and I was hoping for as minimal amount of ‘fuss and muss’ as possible. Over the summer, we had been invited to a birthday party at the Laserdome Plus in North Vancouver. I had never been there before and was way too excited when I found out about what they offer!
After the party, I asked Portia if she would like to have HER birthday at Laserdome Plus and she answered with a resounding YES!
I signed up for the Space Jungle Party which was perfect for the age of the kids coming to Portia’s party. This is what the party includes:
When you show up for your party at Laserdome Plus, you are introduced to your group leader (ours was a very lovely girl who was great with the kids) and they kind of take over as soon as the party starts. You do NOT need to herd children for the 2 hours!
The way they run the Space Jungle parties is the kids start with 45 minutes in the Space Jungle which is a MASSIVE indoor jungle gym. It goes so high and the kids get so nicely tuckered out with all the climbing and sliding and running around in there. Then, there is a 15 minute period of time where the kids go into the light room. There is a big interactive light board on the ground and the kids play all sorts of games in there.
It was fun to watch! After the light room, it’s time for pizza (included in the price is 2 sliced/child) and cake, then more Space Jungle play time if time is left over.
To prepare for the party, this is ALL I did:
- Book the Laserdome for the date/time we wanted.
- Pick up veggie platter and a bag of chips.
- Pack cupcakes, veggie platter and goodie bags into the car.
- Show up and watch the kids having fun while I catch up with some of my friends.
- Leave the Laserdome.
NO setup. NO cooking. NO cleanup.
It was honestly the best idea I’ve had in a long time and I needed to share with you! Also, I went super simple this year when it came to goodie bags.
I didn’t want to send parents home with little knick knacks (probably because I’ve been so focussed on purging my own house these days) so I made little lollipop ghosts (seeing as we’re close to Halloween). The kids loved them and the parents had no teeny tiny toys to deal with once back home. WIN WIN.
Things to remember for your Laserdome Plus party:
*All children MUST wear socks! (You may want to include that on your invitation!)
*Even though there are notes about not bringing outside food, we were told we could absolutely bring our own cake/cupcakes and some snacky foods.
*Have fun!

March 3, 2016 #6 AuthorI am a new follower. Yay! I am happy to find a BC blogger/West blogger so I can relate to and might know where you are talking about in your posts. I think everyone has a birthday party at home once. Ha! and probably only once as I relate to the same issues you mentioned above. So worth going to a Party venue! I look forward to reading more of your posts
