Day date with my girls on Robson St.
Life June 23, 2017 Jessica Blumel 2

There’s nothing that means more to me than dedicated, stress-free time with my kids. If you’re thinking ‘how nice it must be’ that I get that opportunity, I can ease your mind and tell you that it doesn’t happen nearly as often as it probably should. As the girls get older, our schedules get busier. Taking the time to slow down and just ‘hang out’ with the kids is when I feel like I am being a better parent.
The girls and I got to play out that chilled out dream recently when we spent the day taking in all that Robson St. has to offer. Vancouver is known for its quality of shopping and its multitude of dining options. A lot of that goodness happens on the iconic Robson St.

We started our mommy-daughters afternoon with a bite to eat at Cactus Club, as I had pulled the girls out of school (shh) and I knew that if we were going to go the distance that day, the kiddies needed fuel. Like, ASAP. Cactus is my go-to in so many instances. What I love about it is that I can eat healthy adult food but the kids still love the smaller plates. It’s a dining-out-with-kids WIN WIN.
If you haven’t tried the Frosé at Cactus Club, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Hashtag: Drink of the summer.
The girls had their special drinks and mommy had hers. 😉
Deeeeelish. Once we had filled our tanks, we headed out to see how else we could entertain ourselves on Robson St.
First stop: The Candy Room. That was the first time I had ever taken them to a candy store. (I may have created a monster- or two 😉 ).
After loading the girls up with sugar (really, mom?), it was time for some eye-candy for this mama!
Plenty always has plenty on offer. I could spend an entire day in that store!
The kids felt differently… as kids typically do.
So, off we went to explore some more.
Sometimes, I forget how little my teensiest is. Her legs get tired so quickly and she has refused to sit in a stroller since she was around 2 years old. That makes a one-stop shopping destination like Robson St. extra appealing. No stairs, fresh air and a great selection of stores that are nice and close together.
You guys… did you think the girls just calmly and patiently shopped with me for an entire afternoon? LOL.
When the last resort is called for and the devices come out, it’s like the fuse on the bomb has been lit. It’s only a matter of time before… your time is up!
The last stop was Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for a candy apple for Portia and popcorn (?) for Madeleine. We went all out on the sugar intake that day and I absolutely paid the price when their blood-sugar levels crashed, but it was all worth it to see how excited the girls were all day.
Suffice it to say that we all found what we were looking for, while spending some nice quality time together. Love being a mama to these girls.
Can you tell?

July 7, 2017 #1 AuthorEnjoyed reading about your day date so much! It’s a good reminder that I need to do this more often with my two – especially with K as she’s quickly approaching her tween years. And Robson St makes it pretty easy to shop for those with little legs ☺️
