A couple of weeks ago, I had an Usana gift basket dropped off by a chica I had been in touch with named Danielle.  Danielle owns her own Usana business and we spent some time discussing some products that I could try out to increase my energy levels.

I’d say 5 days out of 7 every week, my energy levels are SO LOW.  As a working mama with 2 active little girls, I seem to have the same “crash and burn” time every afternoon.  It’s usually around 2:30/3pm that I suddenly start dragging my feet and my eyes would love nothing more than to just close.

Remember naps?

On days when taking a nap is impossible (everyday?), I definitely need some form of pick-me-up in the afternoon.  I’d prefer not to drink coffee ALL DAY long, so I was pretty excited to give Usana a go.

I started with a Rev3 Energy drink.  This is the Usana product that caught my eye initially.  I can’t do those regular energy drinks.  Red Bull and the like make my heart feel like it’s going to pound right out of my chest and they are so sugary that I get heart burn.  Not good.  The nice thing about this Rev3 drink is that it has ALL NATURAL ingredients.

Rev3 drinks have:

  • No artificial flavors
  • No artificial sweeteners
  • No artificial preservatives
  • No artificial colors

I found it to be much less sweet than your average energy drink which made it much tastier to drink.  I actually quite enjoyed the drink (and my husband REALLY enjoyed them).

What makes Rev3 Energy unique is that it contains a significant amount of L-carnitine. This ingredient offers two important functions in energy production: first it shuttles fatty acids into the mitochondria where they can be turned into energy, and secondly L-carnitine helps transport the toxic byproduct of energy combustion out of the mitochondria to prevent accumulation. Rev3 is also distinguished by its low-glycemic formula. The total glycemic load from Rev3 is three to four times lower than traditional energy drinks. Typical energy drinks spike your blood sugar levels for a quick burst of energy, but lead to a crash soon after, leaving you feeling drained. Rev3’s proprietary formula creates more of a sustained feeling of energy.

I brought a couple of the drinks to work on days I was teaching and I think they really gave me the boost that I needed after work to get my grocery shopping done, pick the girls up from daycare, and do the whole afternoon/evening dinner/bedtime routine.  Sometimes I am literally so tired at this point in the day that all I can manage is a lot of blank staring straight ahead. The Rev3 energy drinks and the Rev3 Energy Surge Packs may just be my new go-to on these days!

I also had a chance to try out some of the Protein Snacks.  I have a terrible habit of skipping meals and I know this has a lot to do with my exhaustion midday.  I kept some of the Fudge Delite bars in my purse and was so happy to find them in there on days where I had missed lunch.  Oops!  I felt full enough to keep going with the day and I felt satisfied knowing that I had fuelled my body with a little sumthin’ sumthin’ (that conveniently tastes like chocolate).  :)

Since hearing about Usana through Danielle, I have actually heard from another friend that they really think it’s a great product too and that’s always an extra nice reassurance!
