A story my mom loves to tell about my childhood goes like this…
One night, when my parents thought I was sleeping soundly, my mom grabbed her nightly treat out of the freezer and settled down on the couch with a bowl of ice cream. A few bites in, 4 year old me came around the corner and cheekily asked “having your iiiiice creaaaaam, mommy?“, indicating that I knew about this nightly ritual when my parents thought I had no idea.
It’s amazing how history repeats itself. Now that I am that mommy I have treats at night during my own ‘me time’ (a.k.a when the kids are asleep). We have an actual ‘treat cupboard’ in our home. Our #SmartStash looks like this.
We stopped eating microwaveable popcorn a couple of years ago when a nutritionist went through our kitchen and told me that microwaveable popcorn is really not great for us. If the alternative is Smartfood… Mmmm… I can handle that!
A recent study commissioned by Smartfood found that nearly half (48 per cent per cent) of Canadian women aged 18-34 hide their snacks. From the top shelf of the cupboard (37 per cent) to the pantry (35 per cent) to the desk drawer (19 per cent), women across the country are never within an arm’s reach of their favourite indulgence.
