Hello North Shore Mama readers!!
My name is Sarah Goodman and I’m your new Nutrition Expert! I’m an RHN (Registered Holistic Nutritionist) and I’m here to teach you all about how you can fuel yourselves and your family for optimum health and wellness in fun easy ways that the whole family will enjoy.
What is a registered holistic nutritionist?
An RHN has been educated on human physiology; the way organ systems maintain health and the effects of illness on the body and mind. As a holistic nutritionist I use this knowledge to find ways to help people feel better by correcting systemic imbalances through proper use of diet, lifestyle changes and supplements when needed.
What does a holistic nutritionist do?
While practicing nutrition at the Electra Health Floor in downtown Vancouver I work with clients to evaluate their current diet and lifestyle as we work together to formulate a realistic plan of action to reach each client’s specific goals. I educate people through nutritional counseling to help them along their journey with recipes, meal plans, food preparation guides and hands on grocery store tours. I am the coach in each client’s corner, making changes to their diet and lifestyle that are enjoyable and lasting.
What makes a holistic nutritionist different than a dietitian?
As a holistic nutritionist I look at the body as a whole. When a symptom is experienced I do not look for a quick fix that will simply cover it up. I look to find the root of the problem and work from within. A dietitian strictly follows the Canada Food Guide. This can be overly restrictive as it is necessary to consider other approaches when thinking about every individuals needs. No single diet is perfect for everybody. Many people have food sensitivities that show up as digestive difficulties, decreased energy and mood changes as well as other symptoms and discomforts that individuals just think are normal parts of everyday life. I work to incorporate whole healing foods into the diet that provide vital nutrients to fuel the body, allow for proper detoxification and get that body working like a well maintained machine.
I’m so excited to be part of the expert series! I will be writing weekly articles on all kinds of topics and providing yummy recipes that the whole family will love. If there is something you are interested in hearing about drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
