I am amazed by Portia every day.  At 3 years old, the things that come out of her mouth can make me laugh, make me question and make me think… I would love to know everything that goes on in that head of hers.

Fairly recently, Portia has started playing more and more on her own.  She’s always preferred the company of an adult while in her playroom, but over the past few months, she will pull out a bin of toys and entertain herself entirely.  It’s bitter-sweet for me.  On the one hand, it’s nice to be able to prepare dinner without a preschooler hanging out at my feet, but on the other hand, I’m noticing Portia becoming more and more independent and wanting to spend more time playing alone.

With this new stage in Portia’s childhood, we are on the hunt for toys that encourage Portia to be using her imagination more.  We feel really lucky to have the chance to be playing with the Fisher Price Imaginext Rescue Centre these days.  It is LITERALLY the only toy Portia is playing with since we got it!

For a while now, Portia’s main fascination has been firetrucks (wee-yoo wee-yoo’s as she calls them).  If we hear any siren during the day, it’s a big deal.  If we drive by a fire station, Portia’s day has been made, and if we see a firetruck speed by in action, I wonder if Portia is going to make it through the rest of the day, she is so excited.

A day Portia will never forget- the day she got to meet firefighters and jump in their truck!

Portia’s reaction to receiving the Imaginext Rescue Centre was pretty priceless as well.

Now that Portia has explored every piece of the Rescue Centre and has figured out how to create all the different sounds, and how to make all the pieces move, she will sit and play with it non-stop.

Portia carries around the little fire hydrant, because it’s small and she likes all things tiny.  When she saw a ‘real-life’ fire hydrant outside, she got all excited and shouted “it’s the DADDY hydrant”.  She immediately placed her toy hydrant with the real one and said, “now the daddy is with his baby”.  It was pretty cute :) .

This toy has already provided Portia with endless entertainment and I anticipate many more hours of fun to come!
