Oh Vancouver.  How I love you, but how I do not love that it is mid-May and pouring rain.  Rainy days are the days that are the ultimate parental test.  You ain’t seen nuttin’ until you have been indoors for an entire day with an energetic toddler.  So the question I asked myself this morning when I rolled out of bed and ended up face-to-face with Gloomy* and Damp*:  how do you keep your cooped-up child(ren) entertained and happy when it is raining so hard that your rain boots give-up and stop being waterproof (which sounds ridiculous, but mine actually did just this!) ????

I pulled out all the stops today: colouring, cars, blocks, Baby Einstein movies, iPad apps, the favourite bear getting his first ‘diaper change’… you name it, we did it today.  Scratch that.  We did that all by 10am!  Soooo… what to do with the remaining waking hours?  It was time to pull out the big guns.  First-time experiences are a great way to spend some good, long, quality time with your kids.  I decided it was time to introduce Portia to the age-old tradition of…..

MILK AND COOKIES!!!

As you can see, it was a pretty exciting event.  Milk was everywhere.  Cookie crumbs were everywhere.  It was a royal mess and so worth every moment.  Portia is a milk veteran and has had cookies every now and again, but… the combination… the ritual of the dipping and the dunking and the drinking of escaped sunken chunks, this was all very new and glorious.  To Portia.  Not me.  I swear.  Ok, for me too.  But just a little.  (Blush).

Happy Indoor Day!

*In case it was not clear, Gloomy and Damp are not pet names for my husband 😉

Nice to meet you! I'm Jessica a.k.a North Shore Mama. This site was born out of my love for my daughters and the desire to share my motherhood journey with fellow moms. I believe we're all in this craziness called 'parenthood' together and North Shore Mama is my way of reaching out to anyone who needs a laugh, a cry or dinner inspiration. Thank you so much for reading!

I hear you! The rain comes and stays far too often in this city…
Although my baby girl has yet to get her walking shoes scuffed up yet – staying indoors with her for an entire day is similar torture to that of watching Fran Drescher for an hour.

Lovely blog…. I used to work on the North Shore as a Wedding Planner {inside Isabelle’s Bridal} however now with baby in tow I don’t make it in the neck of woods all that often :)

Congrats on the achievement of Top 30 Mama Blogger in Vancouver… I too glace the list with all the other lovely mama’s! You must be so proud, I know I’m still on cloud nine! I am looking forward to meeting you on the 13th, connecting with other bloggers seems to be a new passion of mine.

I would love to have you over at Little Miss Mama…. a place where I call home. I promise the Tea is always steaming hot served with a side of “did you see what she was wearing”! If that wasn’t inciting enough our Cupcakes, well they are always made with the perfect cake to icing ratio.

    XO

      Hi Tairalyn,

What a nice comment to sit down to. Thank you for the congrats and congratulations to you as well. It’s really fun and I feel totally honoured to be on that list amongst all the ambitious and inspiring mamas. I am really looking forward to the big Fabulous event. It will be my first blogger rendezvous :)

Little Miss Mama sounds AMAZING! Tea and treats are what get me past the 3pm mark every day. I’d love to join you for one of those steaming hot cups you mentioned.

      See you soon!
