I did something this evening that I have thought about doing for a very long time (8 years long!) and have been too afraid/lazy to actually do.
Up until 8 years ago, I used to run. As in, go out for a jog. One of those days, all those years ago, I was out for a jog and stepped on a stone just right which resulted in a sprained knee. It hurt like _____ (bleep).
The fear of re-injuring my knee, along with becoming a mama, starting a business (and any other sorry excuse I have managed to think up over the years) has stopped me from throwing on my runners and getting out into the fresh air for some physical goodness and mental clarity.
Tonight, I broke the cycle.
I had already committed recently to getting back into working out (read this post), but there’s something to be said about a form of exercise that requires next to nothing to accomplish. It actually ‘requires’ mostly just motivation. So maybe I’ll be your motivation after you finish reading this before bed. I would LOVE to know how many of you wake up tomorrow morning half an hour early and go for a RUN!
Did I look like Phoebe from friends when I first left the house?
You better believe it. It took me a few minutes to get into the groove (and for my legs to do what my brain felt like it was telling them to do).
Did I have to stop 4 times in 15 minutes? YUP!
Was I sweating after 3 minutes? UH HUH!
Would I love to say that I ran for more than 15 minutes? I really really would.
But, guess what? I still did it. All 15 minutes of it. And you have to start somewhere, right? I chose to start where I am. And where I am is a 15 minute run.
I may only be ‘a 15 minute run’ for a week or two weeks or THREE… but I am out there running and it felt so good.
HANDS UP (and THUMBS UP), ALL YOU RUNNERS OUT THERE!
