Growing up, we were fortunate enough to have a family summer cabin. Our spring weekends and entire summers were spent on the Sunshine Coast at our cabin. My brother and I have the most incredible memories of endless hours catching crabs, exploring the property we were on, making up plays to perform for the adults, and the list goes on. We lived outdoors every waking moment and passed out at night with bodies full of fresh air and so completely exhausted from days filled with play.
Nowadays, to own a second home/cabin anywhere on the West Coast is a different ball game. Housing costs in Vancouver and surrounding areas are not what they used to be, as we are all aware. Owning a primary home is a feat and an accomplishment in and of itself. Owning a secondary/leisure home … it’s not an option for most of us.
Enter Springs RV Resort.
Brian, the girls and I had the amazing opportunity of being hosted at this magical RV resort right in Harrison Hotsprings. At the risk of sounding totally naive, I actually didn’t know that RV resorts even existed and I think it’s because it’s a very unique concept. Springs RV resort is NOT an RV park. It’s not a campsite where you book a space and park your RV for the weekend. Although this option is currently available, what Springs RV resort is instead, is its own little community. The idea is, you buy the land that your RV sits on (and stays on) and you create the outdoor living space of your dreams with the space left on your land. Most of the outdoor spaces at Springs RV resort were these gorgeous wooden decks with outdoor kitchens, fire pits and perfectly maintained landscaping.
This wasn’t a camping experience, my friends. This was GLAMPING. And we felt like we were at a cabin away from the madness of every day life, while still enjoying the comforts of living in a home.
Just a 1.5 hour drive from most spots in Vancouver is the sweet town of Harrison Hotsprings. Representative of Harrison are the hotsprings themselves, but there is so much more to Harrison. Independently run shops and restaurants, a beautiful lake and beach to spend your days and the quaintness of a small town in BC. It’s a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and routine.
The whole resort is designed with family in mind. Walking around the grounds, groups of kids were playing with each other everywhere you looked. Some were riding their bikes, some were playing in the playground. Some were partaking in the Saturday morning craft session and beading their little hearts out. There’s a Friday night welcome dinner that we got to be a part of, along with about 100 other Springs RV Resort residents. A chance to connect with your neighbours and kick-off a weekend of relaxation and fun. Everything about Springs RV Resort is top-notch.
Unfortunately, it rained the weekend we were there, but we still had such a relaxing couple of days away from work, life and the responsibilities of running a home and businesses.
