When I first opened the package containing my new Dr. Segal’s Pink/Grey Argyle Compression Socks, my initial reaction was “oooo PRETTY!”.  I have to admit that I have only ever seen compression socks once before these ones arrived in the mail. The ones I’ve seen previously were not all that attractive, to say the least.

Dr. Segal’s fashionable line of compression socks are fairly new to the market, and the first of their kind in the world!  These socks are not just aesthetically pleasing though. Here are some of the advantages to Dr. Segal’s compression socks:

  • Increases circulation to help prevent blood clots during long periods of sitting or standing such as travel or work
  • Reduces swelling and leg fatigue to give your legs increased energy
  • Assists in the prevention of varicose and spider veins for optimal leg health
  • Beautiful, comfortable fibers for easy wear
  • Special anti-odor properties help eliminate foot odor
  • Non restrictive band and toe box for added comfort

As much as I loved the look of Dr. Segal’s socks, my thoughts shifted immediately to a good friend of mine who could really benefit from wearing these socks… like… right away!  She has been struggling with varicose veins throughout her second pregnancy.  At 9 months into the pain and discomfort, I thought a more fashionable version of the socks she has been wearing for so many months might be a nice change of scenery for her.

I dropped them off to her and, a few hours later, I received a text message saying how much she LOVED the socks. Feeding off of her excitement, I asked her to sum up how she felt about Dr. Segal’s socks.  This is what she said: “Any woman who has worn compression socks knows how mundane it is to put on the same black or nude socks, day in and day out. I was amazed at how refreshing it was to wear a pair of  patterned compression socks; fashion where you’d least expect it!”.  Though she only has the one pair, she told me that she’s been wearing them every day (and I am supposed to add that they have been washed often).

Dr. Segal’s compression socks are not only made for maternity purposes.  They have created a line that meets the needs of everyone from hockey players to runners to medical professionals to anyone who is sitting or standing on their feet for extended periods of time. You can find out more about Dr. Segal’s fancy footwear on their website, by liking their Facebook page or by following them on Twitter.

During my own pregnancy, I dealt with a lot of swelling in my wrists, calves, and ankles. Somehow, I did not even know about the option of compression socks, but I can only imagine how much relief I would have gotten from them.  I will definitely stock up for when pregnancy number two rolls around, now that I know the benefits to be had.

I’m excited to tell you that you can enter to win your very own pair of Dr. Segal’s Fashionable Compression socks right here, right now!  Submit your entries below! Goodluck!

…and in case you don’t win, the Travel Medicine and Vaccination Centre in North Vancouver sells them. I have a pair in black and use them for post run recovery. Colleagues purchased a pair for her husband who travels a lot. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
