My husband and I don’t get out very often, just the two of us.  With a 3 year old and a 9 month old… you know how it goes! 😉  When we do go out, we choose our restaurants carefully and really make a night of it!

I’m participating in this awesome collaboration with Patak’s Canada right now, where our goal is to Mix In a Little India into our lives.  We’ve been using all sorts of Patak’s pastes and sauces to spice up our meals… both figuratively and literally.  This month, our top secret mission was to go out and enjoy some local Indian cuisine and we knew which restaurant we’d be picking, HANDS DOWN!

Vij’s is this fantastic little restaurant on Granville in Vancouver.  It had been a few years since we last enjoyed a meal at Vij’s, so we were very excited to be going back.  From the minute you walk in, the smells of international spices are all-consuming.  I *may* have started salivating by the time we put our name on the wait list for a table!

There is usually a bit of a wait for a table, as Vij’s is one of the most popular restaurants in Vancouver, but while you wait, you get to enjoy little appies and a drink, so no complaints here!

And the food… ohhhh the food.  It is too good! These pictures will hardly do the meal the justice it deserves, but have a little peak at what we ate.

Vij's Mix in a little India North Shore Mama Pataks

Local pork belly with apple mint chutney.

Eggplant in thick yogurt and garlic curry.

Mix in a little India at Vij's North Shore Mama

Mutton kebobs with Bengali style curry.

All the dishes were the perfect balance of spice and exotic flavours.  This meal was not only delicious, it also inspired me to want to try making some of these dishes at home.  I’m also putting the Vij’s Cookbook on my Christmas wish list! I would LOVE to learn how to make what we ate!

I came across some meals that other Patak’s-lovers have made and I’m adding this roasted cauliflower and butter chicken curry and this potato and pea samosa pie to my meal plan for the next couple of weeks.  Then, I’ll tackle some of the Vij’s recipes when Santa brings me the cookbook :)

Disclosure: I am part of the Patak’s Canada Ambassador program with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
