Last night, my husband, Portia and I had the opportunity to attend the opening night of the Disney on Ice performance, “Dare to Dream”. It has been at least 20 years since I last saw a Disney on Ice performance. I used to figure skate when I was young, and when my family went to Disney on Ice when I was a child, it was overwhelmingly exciting. I felt that excitement all around us last night, as little girls and boys, dressed in princess costumes and adorning superhero capes, squealed with delight throughout the show.
Portia, being only 2 years old was less into the squealing and more into the wide-eyed wonderment of what on earth was unfolding down below. The highlight for her was definitely whenever Mickey or Minnie skated onto the ice. The highlight for my husband and I was attending our first live performance with our daughter, watching her taste popcorn for the first time while clinging to her new stuffed Minnie Mouse, and having her cuddle up to us with an ear-to-ear grin firmly planted on her face. It was the overall experience that made it such a special night for us.
“Dare to Dream” runs until November 25th in Vancouver and you can buy tickets here.
Below is a YouTube video of bits and pieces of the show. The quality isn’t great, but it is just to give you an idea.
