When is the last time you volunteered an hour of your time? 1 hour. When was it? If you’re racking your brain right now to try and figure that out- it has probably been a while ;). I’m not here to point fingers or dole out shame, because I’ll just tell you straight up that the last time I volunteered was TOO LONG AGO.
One of the things I love most about being a TELUS blog ambassador is that TELUS is so active in the community with their TELUS Days of Giving initiative that it encourages me (and holds me accountable) to get out to support all sorts of great local causes. And that is exactly what I did recently at the Dr. Peter Centre in Vancouver.
A whole group of TELUS employees, TELUS ambassadors and others got together to help beautify the gardens that surround the Dr. Peter Centre. We weeded and planted and had a lot of fun while doing it.
In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, TELUS has asked Canadians to take a pledge to give just ONE HOUR of their time to their local community with the goal of reaching a #MillionHours of volunteering this year. Last year alone the TELUS team of employees, retirees, friends and family members logged more than 870,000 volunteer hours in communities across Canada but this year they are looking to reach the 1,000,000 mark.
Giving back has always been an important part of the TELUS culture, and has made them one of the most giving companies in the world.
It is so easy to get caught up in our own lives with work and family etc. It’s important to look outside of what’s going on in our own world to be sure we are contributing to causes that need support and it doesn’t need to be a huge commitment. We can make a difference within our own community (and globally as well) one hour at a time.
Click here to pledge your 1 hour and get out there. Giving feels great and volunteering is such an easy way to give
Disclosure: I am a Team TELUS blogger and I receive special perks from TELUS for being part of their advocacy program. All opinions are my very own.
