Christmas in Vancouver!

Christmas is by far my favourite time of the year and I love getting out to explore what our lovely city has to offer during the holidays.  I have started a list of some fun things to do over the holidays with family and friends that I hope you will find useful.  Happy Holidays!

Experience the fun-filled, family-friendly events at Park Royal this Holiday season.

Listed below are some highlights:

Live Musical Sounds of the Season

Park Royal will not be shy of live music throughout the holiday season:

North Pole, BC at Maplewood Farm

Visitors to our 2012 adventure will then enjoy new interactive activities and scenes, Christmas lights galore and magical Elf, human and animal characters. Family visits with Santa will be the highlight of the day.

Heritage Christmas at Burnaby Village Museum

Delight in the shimmering Winter Wonderland near the Love Farmhouse, an Angel-Crossing at the bridge, a Holiday Lane and be wowed by the gigantic multi-coloured Christmas tree sparkling near the carousel.

Canyon Lights at the Capilano Suspension Bridge

With a zillion sparkling lights adorning the Bridge, Rainforest AND Cliffwalk, this annual winter event ensures the holidays are merry and bright. From Saturday, December 1, 2012 until Saturday, January 5, 2013, guests will be treated to the ultimate seasonal sensory celebration, including gingerbread cookie decorating, seasonal music from the Holiday Band, glass ornament blowing with Malcolm Macfadyen and of course, the splendor of magical twinkling lights throughout the park.

Grouse Mountain – The Peak of Christmas

Sleigh bells ring, choirs sing! Grouse Mountain presents a magical celebration and a multitude of festivities.

Stanley Park – Bright Lights Train

This might be my all time favourite! Ride the train, watch animated displays, listen to holiday classics, sip warm cocoa, and feast on fresh popcorn or roasted nuts. Enjoy the sight of young eyes dazzled by the display of lights and the excitement of the holidays.

Breakfast with Santa at Canada Place

On December 15 & 16, 2012, we welcome you to Breakfast with Santa presented by Real Canadian Superstore®. This event sells out every year. Join us for this 6th annual traditional family favourite. Fill your tummy then warm your heart with a morning full of merriment. This very popular and magical experience includes a visit with Santa, a superb buffet breakfast, the best in children’s entertainment, face painting, activities, giveaways and more.

Candytown in Yaletown

Vancouver’s newest festival will transform the heritage district of Yaletown into a winter wonderland. Lights and candy canes will adorn lamp poles and costumed characters will parade down Mainland Street. Holiday shoppers are invited to start their seasonal gift buying in Yaletown with local merchants as well as a specialty market carrying unique gifts and holiday treats. You’ll also find Mainland Street filled with local artisans, street performers and live music.

Vancouver Christmas Market

The Vancouver Christmas Market is back for its third year from November 24 to December 24, 2012 on the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza! Sample some new delicious food items and find your unique Christmas gift! Enjoy seasonal music and a great entertainment program of authentic folk groups!

Christmas in Lynn Valley Village

On December 2nd at 5pm, the mayor will be flipping the switch to light up over 70 trees in Lynn Valley Village.  There will be Christmas music and a covered stage. The 12 days of Christmas will be starting Dec 12 and the finale will be on Dec 23rd. Each night there will be live entertainment on the stage from 6-8 pm and on the 23rd there will have a local church choir leading some Carols. You can also expect an appearance from a very special guest that night!

And for those of you who love craft fairs:

A lovely blogger friend of mine, Amy Lee, of The Connection We Share, has compiled a list of holiday craft fairs for the Greater Vancouver area.

What are you favourite things to do around Vancouver at Christmas time?
