Just under a year ago, my little blog was nominated for the VancouverMom.ca's Vancouver's Top 30 Mom Blogger Awards. I managed to sneak in to the Top 30 amidst a slew of fantastic blogs written by a group of lovely mamas. What a huge honour and privilege it was... and continues to be! Once North Shore Mama blog made it into the Top 30, I started on a journey I could not have imagined ever being on. Before I started my blog, I didn't really know much about blogging at all! All I knew was that I loved writing, I loved the idea of having a blog, and I loved being 'helpful'. Little did I know how much I would soon LOVE the community I became a part of within our group of Top 30. VancouverMom helped put my North Shore Mama blog on the map. I grew my pet-project in ways I did … [Continue reading...]

One of my favourite fieldtrips with my students every year is to the Vancouver International Children's Festival. As a French Immersion teacher, the VICF is perfect because of the FrancoFun day which offers activities and performances in French! I have yet to take my own children to the VICF, but we plan on going this year for the first time! I'm really looking forward to it, especially since I have not been since it's been on Granville Island! "A world-renowned festival of performing arts for young audiences, the Vancouver International Children's Festival has been educating, entertaining and inspiring young audiences since 1978." I am excited to have the opportunity of giving away a Family 4-Pack of passes to the World of Art in the Children's Festival's Activity Zone. There are … [Continue reading...]

This year for Christmas I decided to get all crafty and make Portia an advent calendar. I do not really consider myself to be a very 'crafty' individual, so I decided that this year, I would tackle a project that would be easy enough, but would be fun for Portia as well! I purchased all of my calendar-building materials at a dollar store to keep costs down (especially since I had no idea what I was doing and did not want to feel guilty if I abandoned the project in frustration half way through). Materials used: -2 sets of 12 little white boxes (ready to unfold and pop together) -gold numbered stickers -red, green and gold curling ribbon -'stuffing' for the boxes What I chose to fill the boxes with was: mini board books, little animal figurines, a Designs by Erica O hair … [Continue reading...]

Every year, at around this time, you start seeing articles in magazines, the newspaper and online explaining how to "deal with/get through/manage the holiday season without losing your mind/sanity/friends (or whatever)". I have never understood how such a sparkly, cozy and giving time of year would need 'dealing-with' or 'getting-through'. Christmas has always been my most favourite time of the year! I personally wish time would slow right down at this time of year so that we could pack in as much holiday fun as possible! Having said all that, perhaps I grew up loving Christmas so much because my parents (and other family members) took it upon themselves to make this time of year feel super extra special, without much fuss! When I pause and think of all of my favourite things about the … [Continue reading...]
