Carsharing is a pretty foreign concept to me.  I remember visiting my best friend in Toronto and her reserving a car2go to drop me off at the airport at the end of my stay and it was so cool to walk up to the car, have it unlock for her specifically and to know she could drop it off again near her home once she had dropped me off at the departures terminal.  It was a system that worked for her and her husband.

On the flip side, with 2 kids (in carseats, no less), carshairng has kind of been a non-event in our lives because all the cute little car2go’s that we see around our neighbourhood are Smart Cars.  WERE Smart Cars, I should say.  NOW, there are cars out there on the roads of Vancouver that can meet the needs of families (or groups or 4 adults)!

I was so excited to partner with car2go right at the launch of these new cars available to Vancouverites.  The Mercedes B-class 4-door vehicles that you can now reserve on your car2go app, just as you would reserve a car regularly, are amazing!

car2go 4 day mercedes for families

car2go 4 door Mercedes

I had the pleasure of driving this beauty around for 3 days and wished I could have kept it as my own.  I honestly feel that having this 4-door Mercedes as part of their ‘team’, car2go really changed the face of carsharing.

For the first time ever, car2go members will have the option to bring up to four passengers along for their trip. The four-door car2go vehicles will be wrapped in the signature car2go blue-and-white outfit, and will also be featured in the car2go smartphone app, allowing members to easily identify them – whether on the road or the app.

As a busy family, when my car needed to go in for servicing over the weekend, being carless would have been inconvenient for us.  It was a great opportunity to grab a car2go and the whole time I was zipping around in this car, I thought of all the situations it would make so much sense to grab a car2go like a girls weekend up to Whistler or for a ride out to the airport (instead of getting into a cab) or exactly what I used it for.  It just really makes sense!

What is car2go?

A car2go is always a pleasure to drive: just take it, drive it, park it. Simple and straightforward. You can always find a vehicle in your area. You open it with the car2go app. You go from A to B, park your car2go again and that’s that. It’s fun, saves money and helps the environment.

The flexibility of car2go

You can take any of the car2go vehicles you find distributed around you, or you can reserve an available vehicle 30 minutes before you want to drive. That way, you can get to your destination faster. Once you reach your destination, you can either end your trip in accordance with your city’s Parking Rules, or you can keep it if you want to drive further.

ok this is amazing! and so easy!
While My husband and I have a “large” family by today’s standards (three kids, two of which are twins) we thought getting rid of our 7 seater hybrid would be a hard pass because it would be inconvenient (grocery store trips, going to movies, or small strips ect.) I think that getting him used to car sharing would be a really fantastic way to going car free! (I have always wanted a cargo bike since my son was a small baby)
Thanks for the promo code, I will be using this with my dad while he is in town! it will be nice for him to have the option when he comes to visit.
