Blasting the Belly!
Probably the most common question I get as a personal trainer is this, “ How do I get rid of my belly?” Most people don’t like the answer because it involves a lot of work!
I will break it down into three components for you today.
The first offender is Diet! There have been thousands of books written on this topic and there is a new “super food” everyday it seems that claims to burn belly fat, so I will keep it simple. Stay AWAY from high sugar and fatty foods. The more it’s been processed the worse it is for you. Stick with fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, complex carbohydrates and lean protein sources. Drink lots of water and snack throughout the day. If you have an iPhone try the “lose it” app. It’s free and is a great way to keep track of your daily calorie intake.
Next up is Cardio. This is where most people struggle! Nothing burns away the fat more effectively than getting your heart rate up. Try this exercise routine out for 4 weeks and see how you feel!
Monday- 30 minute walk
Tuesday- 30 minute jog
Wednesday- 25 minute interval ( 2 minute Run, 1 minute walk, rinse and repeat)
Friday- 30 minute jog
Saturday- 30-50 minute hike (include lots of incline)
* make sure to work your way up to this and always include at least 2 rest days per week!
Last but not least is Core work. There are hundreds of exercises for your core and I would suggest attending a few classes to get the basics. Make sure to work your entire core and not just the “abs” to avoid muscle imbalances . When all that weight starts melting away you want something to show for it underneath! You can incorporate your core work in after your cardio while your body is still “warm” to maximize your workout.
