A six-year old boy fell 40 feet down an embankment where the BCMC and Baden Powell trails intersect and ended up in the hospital on Monday afternoon.

There are many outdoor activities that we like doing with our kids, but this is a reminder to be extra careful and to choose our paths appropriately when hiking with young ones!

This Vancouver Sun article highlights some recent instances that make me wonder if kids under a certain age should be hiking some of our gruelling mountain paths at all.

What do you think?  Do you hike with your wee ones?

I do take my kids hiking but I only go on certain trails and nothing toooo treacherous. I don’t even like hills off the sides of trails and always hold their hands at those points etc…. it does make me nervous but as long as you prepare and are extra careful it is okay. Again your trail choice is a big factor!
