Basics for Babies Recap from Fit For Life
Fitness - SWEAT VancityNews July 10, 2013 Colin Stephenson 2

I’d like to start by thanking everyone who came out for our basics for babies fundraiser!
For those of you who missed it, I will give you a quick run down. We had about 20 little kids running around, some learning karate, some just kicking things. It looked like they were having fun and it’s always great to see kids burn off some steam.
For the adults we ran 4 circuits. Nothing too hard but enough to get the blood flowing. We started things off with an obstacle course which included some burpees and frog leaps, shuffle steps and an agility ladder. From there we moved on to a body conditioning circuit which included sumo squats, kettle swings and a few more light weight exercises. The last two stations were kick boxing and Core. In all we raised over $150, not bad for our first fundraiser and most importantly families got out and got some exercise together.
Sunday was an example of the type of training I love! People laughing, working hard and getting to know each other. Almost every exercise we did had some practical application to our daily lives, whether it’s picking up your kids, doing yard work or practising self-defense. If you’re having a hard time getting back into your routine come out and try a class, any class! It’s amazing how much easier it is when all you have to do is show up and the workout is waiting for you!
I will be back next week with tips to avoid hitting a “plateau”!
